2024 Update for Our Supporters!

Kathi Beasley

The past year has been incredibly busy, as the outpouring of support from generous donors like you has kept us on our toes, rushing to care for children in urgent need. Thanks to your ongoing interest and generosity, we have been able to respond quickly to the suffering of so many children in Sierra Leone—children who are facing unimaginable hardships due to disability, illness, and the loss of their parents. But as the demand for help continues to grow, so does the need for your continued support for which we are so very grateful.

For the past 3½ years, West Africa Village for Children, a sister organization of the West Africa Fistula Foundation, has been working tirelessly on our new mission to support the most vulnerable children in Sierra Leone—children who have been left without parents or are living with debilitating disabilities. Every day, we witness their struggles, but also their incredible strength, and we know that together, we can offer them a future full of hope with our Christ centered mission.

Our Progress and Promise

Thanks to the dedication of amazing professionals like Karen Roeming and the team at International Pediatric Rehabilitation Collaborative (IPRC), we have been able to provide vital medical and therapeutic care to over 70 children. Many of these children have already shown significant improvement, and it’s nothing short of a miracle to see the joy in their faces as they experience healing and hope for the first time. Look closely below at just one of the many success stories we have had. This is Peter who hopes to run and play soccer after 10 years of waiting and suffering. Our medical partners are working very hard to make that possible!

The Needs Are Overwhelming, But So Is the Potential for Change

We are currently caring for 132 children with severe disabilities, including malnutrition, trauma, paralysis, birth defects, infectious diseases, and 50 cases of untreated seizure disorders. These children are in urgent need of medical care, physical rehabilitation, and emotional support. For many, the pain they endure is unimaginable, but through God’s grace and the kindness of supporters like you, we are making a real difference in their lives.

In addition, we are participating in the care of 185 orphaned children in the area. They live in often dangerous conditions that are difficult to describe—overcrowded orphanages with inadequate facilities, poor sanitation, and a constant struggle to meet even their most basic needs. The children’s spirits, however, remain bright, and we are committed to offering them not only a safe place to live, but also the love, care, and opportunity they deserve for a better future.

This Christmas, we had the privilege of celebrating with our children, throwing a party and giving gifts to remind them they are loved and cherished. These moments are a powerful reminder of why we do this work. But there is still so much to be done. Our children need ongoing medical care, better living conditions, education, and vocational training and college as they grow older. We need to ensure that they not only survive but thrive.

How You Can Make a Difference

With your generosity, we can continue to transform lives by:

  • Providing life-changing medical care and rehabilitation for over 130 disabled children

  • Renovating the orphanage facilities to create safer, healthier environments

  • Expanding education and vocational training programs to give older children a future

  • Securing a consistent and reliable source of income to meet the ongoing needs of the children

  • Strengthening our referral systems to ensure the children receive specialized care and support

Please join us in making a lasting impact on the lives of these hopeful children. Your kindness will not only change their present, but will also shape their future in ways that are truly immeasurable. Please support us with a PayPal Donation on our home page.
